Sauce on the Side: Discover the Ultimate Calzone and Pizza Experience in Saint Louis

Service was great and food was even better! We were simple with pepperoni and bbq chicken but my kids gobbled them up. The caramel apple calzone didn't stand a chance. So good!

Coming in from out of town and we were hungry and without wheels so we hit what was closest to us and had good reviews. Dan was our cashier and he gave us a friendly welcoming and run down of the menu. I went with his suggestion "the duke" and homegirl got the fatty b. Our food came out quickly and were both awesome. Usually a classic pizza person but these calzones were fantastic. Thanks again Dan for the awesome service. See you around

A must to try! The calzone options are so nicely paired. I could not decide, but have no doubt each one holds its own for flavor. I ordered the Costanza w/a pesto sauce as a switch. WONDERFUL Can't wait to go back and try another. Great atmosphere and the Complete staff so friendly and helpful.

I consider myself a calzone connoisseur and this place has everything I look for in a calzone! I was in STL for work and was delighted to see a calzone place near my hotel. My current home city of Chicago has an absolutely disappointing lack of them so I seized the opportunity to order one on a Sunday night for takeout. First, they use ricotta in their base cheese mixture- that is a must for me and really elevates a calzone. Second, they top it with Parmesan cheese after it is baked. Third, the crust is top notch- crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside and perfectly seasoned. All of these add up to a truly excellent calzone. You get to choose from a variety of sauces but I went with a standard marinara which was really good. I did a build your own zone with pineapple, onions, and pepperoni and I devoured the whole entire thing in one sitting! I also ordered the smoked bacon salad and it was a bit of a letdown. It had a VERY smoky flavor, and it was a bit too much for me on a salad but that's probably on me since "smoked" was in the name of the salad. Next time I'd just get two calzones instead of a salad ha! When I picked up around 6:30 on a Sunday the restaurant was totally empty. They forgot the Diet Coke I ordered but I didn't realize it until I got back to my hotel so I called and they refunded that part right away. Overall I will absolutely be ordering from here again every time I'm in STL for work because the calzone was fantastic!

I had the pesto calzone and it was so tasty. The filling was generous and the bread was great for dipping. My date got a meat-lovers calzone and he really enjoyed it. They have a nice drink selection at the bar if that's your thing. (We opted for water after a long day!) We enjoyed the nice patio while waiting for our food.

Sauce in the Side is always yummy. My favorite is Meat Me in St. Louie. The proven cheese is delicious. The service on this visit was very good. Everyone in the downtown restaurant was great. We sat inside and it is nice and clean.

Ordered delivery: The order was placed and filled very quickly. They have an extensive menu with quite a few dietary options (gluten free / vegan). We ordered a beet salad, a chocolate banana calzone, and a cheese calzone with vegan pepperoni and banana peppers. Pros: super fast, very tasty, giant portions, and no skimping, so cheesy, all calzones over stuffed with goodness! Only one con- the salad was very wilted/spoiled throughout. Now I know from my own experience it's hard to pick out spoiled leaves in a spring mix. Also life lesson, when eating at a calzone shop, why even try to be healthy with a salad?! With this in mind, I'd totally order again and just leave the salad out of the order.

While in St. Louis I went to try Sauce in the Side. The yelp reviews helped in finding this place. It was a short walk from where I was staying. I ordered the Bullseye calzone. The crust was light with a nice crunch. The steak, cheese, spinach, balsamic mushrooms and onions was perfect. I don't know what the side sauce was but it was delicious. It had a nice flavor. Liken to a ranch with a zing in there. It was so good I ordered a calzone to take home. I ordered a pepperoni, mushroom and onion for my to go. The red sauce was really good! Heats up nicely in the air fryer by the way! My server was very kind, engaging and accommodating!
